Happy Valentines day!

As we celebrate Valentines day I am reminded of 5 love languages by Gary Chapman.
Here is our take on 5 ways demonstrate love to those with hearing loss.
1. Words of affirmation.. Individuals who suffer from hearing loss miss words. Regardless of the stage they are in with their hearing journey (denial or full acceptance) learn to affirm them.
2. Acts of service.. You can join them to a hearing consultation. Oftentimes it’s the people closest to us who notice our hearing difficulty before we do. Shared perspective is important to both the Audiologist and the patient.
3. Gifts.. It can be as simple as booking them for an free ear check or paying for a hearing assessment or upgrade their hearing tech.
4. Quality time... help them enjoy the sounds of nature or get back to their hobbies by encouraging and joining them. A lot of individuals with hearing loss tend to isolate themselves particularly from social situations. Encourage them to fall in love with their hobbies again whether its going for bingo or hiking.
5.Physical touch.. Hearing loss is a diagnosis. I have experienced couples immediately hug after they have been diagnosed. Did you know physical touch releases endorphins and it regulates our nervous system.
